Talk for Writing
![]() |
Talk for Writing is designed to expose pupils to high quality texts that inspire them to write for a range of purposes. We believe that written communication is incredibly important as part of the cultural capital needed to be a citizen of the world. The Talk for Writing journey, designed by Pie Corbett, has three distinct phases ImitationPupils study and learn a model text whilst at the same time learning the key components of the toolkit for the writing genre.. InnovationPupils put into practise the toolkit for the genre by writing a version of the text with key changes from the original. The amount of innovation will depend on age and confidence of the children. |

IndependencePupils write their own text within the genre being studied. In this final piece, pupils bring together all the learning from the unit and the different bits of writing inspiration. The Talk for Writing process helps pupils become fantastic writers by the time they leave us in Year 6.
